In 2020, while co-leading Google’s Ethical AI team, @timnitgebru co-authored a pioneering paper on the risks of large language models.
After Google asked her to retract it or remove her name, she refused to do so without certain guarantees — and was fired.
@timnitgebru went on to found @dairinstitute, building a different model for AI research rooted in communities and lived experience.
Right Livelihood honours her for challenging concentrated power in AI.
